Navi Mumbai: In a major step toward strengthening disaster-response readiness, the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approved the purchase of two advanced aerial ladders capable of reaching heights of 55 metres and 28 metres. The combined investment of ₹22 crore aims to enhance rescue operations in high-rise buildings during emergencies such as fires and other disasters.
The 55-metre ladder will enable firefighters to reach 15 to 20 floors or more, offering critical support in rapidly growing vertical residential pockets. Meanwhile, the 28-metre ladder will cater to medium-height structures, including hospitals, schools, hotels, malls, and industrial units areas that frequently witness high footfall.
The decision comes after sustained demands from activists who highlighted the gaps in existing fire and rescue infrastructure, especially with Panvel’s real estate sector expanding swiftly. They stressed that rising tower constructions must be matched with upgraded safety systems.

PCMC Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale reaffirmed the civic body’s commitment to public safety. “The municipal corporation has the responsibility to protect the life of citizens and their properties. Modern facilities are being provided accordingly. The purchase of the aerial ladders is a step forward in this regard,” he said.
The new equipment is expected to significantly boost PCMC’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively, ensuring safer urban growth for Panvel’s residents.
