Indian Women’s Cricket Team Soars into World Cup Semifinals

The Indian women’s cricket team continues its dream run in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, securing a commanding place in the semifinals after a brilliant 53-run victory over New Zealand. With a record-breaking total of 340/3, the team showcased both experience and youthful firepower led by Smriti Mandhana’s 109 and newcomer Pratika Rawal’s stunning 122.

Co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, this edition of the World Cup has already rewritten history. The opening match between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati drew over 22,000 fans, the highest attendance ever for a women’s cricket game in India. In another milestone, the ICC announced that the prize money for this tournament USD 4.48 million  would surpass the men’s 2023 event, marking a defining moment for gender equality in sport.

The tournament has not been without challenges. India’s wicket-keeper batter Yastika Bhatia was ruled out due to a knee injury, replaced by Uma Chetry, who impressed with her quick glove work and composure under pressure. Yet, the team’s morale remains unshaken, as captain Harmanpreet Kaur continues to inspire with her leadership and calm confidence.

Some fascinating facts highlight the team’s incredible journey

Mandhana became the fastest Indian woman to reach 5,000 ODI runs, while her partnership with Rawal against Australia set a new national record for the highest opening stand in Women’s ODIs.

Despite being twice World Cup finalists (2005 and 2017), India still awaits its maiden trophy. But as the players display unmatched determination, skill, and spirit, the dream of bringing the cup home feels closer than ever.

With history within reach and a nation behind them, the Indian women’s team stands poised to turn promise into glory.
