Central Railway to Introduce 10 New Services and Two Stations Near Navi Mumbai Airport in November

Central Railway (CR) is set to enhance suburban rail connectivity in Navi Mumbai this November by introducing 10 additional services and commissioning two new stations along the Belapur Uran corridor. The upgrade aims to improve commuter access to emerging residential, commercial, and airport areas.

The two new stations include Targhar located near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, and Gavhan situated in the rapidly developing Uran region. Targhar station is expected to serve airport staff, passengers, and daily commuters, while Gavhan will cater to residents and local industries in Uran, easing travel along this crucial corridor.

Currently, the Belapur–Uran line operates around 40 services. With the addition of 10 more trains, the frequency will improve significantly, reducing waiting times and enhancing connectivity between Navi Mumbai’s nodes.

The project is funded jointly by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and Central Railway, in a 67:33 ratio, reflecting strong collaboration between state and rail authorities. Originally proposed in 1997, the project faced multiple delays, including land acquisition challenges and rising costs from ₹495 crore to ₹1,782 crore.

Once operational, these upgrades are expected to bolster commuter convenience, strengthen airport connectivity, and support the growing urban infrastructure of Navi Mumbai.
