Navi Mumbai: A shocking incident has emerged from Navi Mumbai where a 90-year-old widow was allegedly beaten to death, with initial police suspicion pointing toward a family member involved in a long-running property dispute.
According to preliminary information, the victim, a frail elderly woman living alone, was found dead inside her residence on Monday morning. Neighbours alerted the police after noticing that the main door had been left partially open and the woman had not been seen since the previous evening.
Police officials stated that the victim appeared to have suffered severe head and facial injuries, suggesting an assault. There were no signs of forced entry, strengthening the suspicion that the attacker may have been someone known to her.
Investigators are examining the possibility of a property-related conflict within the family. Sources said that the elderly woman had been embroiled in an internal dispute over ancestral property, and one of her relatives had reportedly been pressuring her regarding ownership issues. However, police have not confirmed any arrests and said the investigation is ongoing.
A forensic team has collected fingerprints, blood samples, and other evidence from the scene. CCTV footage from the surrounding locality is also being reviewed to trace the suspect’s movements before and after the crime.
Residents of the locality expressed shock and concern over the brutal killing of a woman known to be gentle, independent, and largely confined to her home. Many have demanded stronger security measures for senior citizens living alone.
Police have appealed for public cooperation and have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward. Officers said they are pursuing multiple angles and expect a breakthrough soon.
