A tragic accident occurred in Mumbai on Monday after a portion of a pillar from an under-construction metro rail corridor collapsed in the Mulund area, officials said.
According to initial reports, one person lost their life in the incident, while three others sustained injuries. Among the injured, one individual is said to be in critical condition and is receiving medical treatment.
Emergency response teams, including police and fire services, rushed to the spot soon after the collapse was reported. Rescue and safety operations were carried out to ensure no one remained trapped under the debris and to secure the surrounding area.
Authorities have begun a preliminary investigation to determine the cause of the structural failure. Officials are expected to examine construction quality, safety compliance, and whether proper precautions were in place at the site at the time of the incident.
The mishap has raised fresh concerns about on-site safety at large infrastructure projects, particularly in densely populated neighbourhoods where construction activity takes place close to residential zones and busy roads.
Further updates are awaited as officials continue their inquiry and assess accountability for the accident.
