Vashi Railway Police Arrest Tamil Nadu Man for Brutal Knife Attack on Train Commuter

Navi Mumbai, 3rd January 2026: In a swift action following a shocking incident on a local train, Vashi Railway Police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Tamil Nadu for a brutal knife attack on a commuter. The attack took place inside a Panvel–CSMT local train near Vashi station, leaving passengers in fear.

According to officials, the suspect assaulted the commuter without provocation, inflicting serious injuries. Immediate intervention by fellow passengers helped in preventing further harm, after which the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A four-day intensive manhunt ensued, during which police traced the accused to Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. He was apprehended and brought back to Navi Mumbai, where he is currently in police custody. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect will be charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Vashi Railway Police have assured commuters of enhanced vigilance and increased patrolling on local trains to prevent similar incidents. They also urged passengers to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.

The incident has sparked concerns about passenger safety on Mumbai’s local train network, prompting authorities to review security measures across all suburban routes.
